A FIELD GUIDE / 01

A little more
colourful.

A colour system is a starting point for looking, not a verdict on what you can wear.

01

Three dimensions

Temperature describes a cooler to warmer impression; value runs from light to deep; chroma describes muted to vivid. Each is a continuum, and a photograph or screen can make any of them hard to judge.

02

Templates, not boxes

Our provisional set of 31 named templates includes the 12 familiar seasons. They are useful summaries of colour ranges, not scientific diagnoses. Uncertain is not the same as neutral: you can explore without resolving every question.

03

A wardrobe of colour

A useful palette makes room for light shirts, mid and dark neutrals, and accents across colour families. The proposed shades are illustrative; lighting, fabric and your display all change their appearance.

04

Harmony meets taste

What you enjoy wearing is yours to decide. Keep or set aside individual colours without changing what you observed in the comparisons. Your chosen template is always an explicit choice.

The expanded taxonomy and palettes are provisional design proposals, informed by traditional seasonal colour analysis and developed for this project. References include The Concept Wardrobe’s colour dimensions and seasonal guides.
